12/8/23 Adding references for Self-Commodification

11/13 Hedgehog review Journal from 2003, The Commodification of Everything, the Commodification of Self, Joseph E. Davis

11/11 Add Baron and Davis book.

11/9/23 idea to distinguish Commoditization from Commodification : Intangible items, not produced items (love, water, air, Hawaii) are commodified, Produced items (wheat, salt, IBM chips) are commoditized. Slate article Commoditization Conundrum speaks of wheat as a commodity- production meets demand and the commodity value is stabilized to lowest price market will bear. Morton salt is priced higher than other salt companies, but the market pays for convenience "The lesson of Morton's success, obviously, is that even the most mundane and undifferentiated of products can be made into something unique with the right marketing strategy. Salt is salt is salt, except when it comes in a blue canister with a little girl with an umbrella on it and the promise that rain won't damage its pourability."

Update 11/7/23

Outline of proposed changes

[edit]

11/8/23 Settled on Organization : Lead, History, Aspects, Examples, Controversies, See Also section. With topics in Aspects and Controversies section to do more research. I need to clarify the difference between Commodification and Commoditization.. it seems similar, but I feel are two different topics.

11/4/23 Finding article and added to bibliography, Commodification in regard to: street names, of tourism effects, and of personal information. Will need sections for Computer security/ Privacy because of commodification of consent and personal information on the internet, and a section under or Cultural Commodification.. or a whole section on Tourism.
