Morrison draft:

Political Positions

[edit]

Healthcare

[edit]

Morrison campaigned for the Minnesota House with a focus on quality, affordable healthcare, supporting a universal buy-in option for MinnesotaCare at what she described as "market rates."[1]

Morrison has supported efforts to lower the cost of prescription drugs, especially insulin. She supported the DFL's Alec Smith Emergency Insulin Act, which would require drug companies to dedicate a small portion of their profits to help Minnesotans who are in emergency need of insulin and criticized Sen. Jeremy Munson for recommending that insulin-dependent diabetics use a $25 insulin option from Walmart.[2]

In her first term, Morrison authored bipartisan legislation with Sen. Julie Rosen that required pharmaceutical companies to alert the Department of Public Health of substantial price hikes for new or existing drugs at least 30 days before the changes take effect.[3] She later said the failure of that bill to pass showed "the power of the pharmaceutical industry" at the Capitol."[4]

Morrison also authored the Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act, which passed the House on a bipartisan vote of 99-33 during the 2020 legislative session.[5][6] Under the bill, drug manufacturers would be required to report to the health commissioner drug pricing information for drugs that exceed certain thresholds or increase by a certain percentage over a 12- or 24-month period.[6]

Environment

[edit]

Morrison authored legislation to help pay homeowners, schools and cities to replace traditional lawns with wildflowers, clovers and native grasses in an effort to slow the collapse of state's bee population.[7][8]
