The International Institute of Erie is a non-profit Organization serving immigrants, refugees and asylees in Erie Pennsylvania.
The International Institute of Erie (IIE) was founded in 1919 by the YWCA to help immigrants during the aftermath of World War I. In 1938, the Institute became an independent nonprofit organization, and in 1946, became an agency member of the United Way, then called the “Community Chest.” In the fall of 2009, IIE completed a merger with, and is now a branch of, USCRI; a DC based nonprofit focusing on international advocacy and intra-national refugee resettlement.
Today, the International Institute of Erie continues to assist refugees in the acclimation of American life. This is accomplished by providing social services through personal caseworkers, career guidance, child care, adult ESL classes, and securing homes for it's clients.
