now publishers was started in 2003 by Mike Casey and Zac Rolnik. It's mission was to create a new hybrid publishing product that would provide a trusted gateway to the increasing amount of research being published worldwide. This was called Foundations and Trends.
Background
[edit]Even before the first journal was published, the company was seen as providing a new paradigm for academic publishing by David Worlock Chairman of EPS Ltd[1] which would sit alongside open access.
The first Foundations and Trends journal launched in 2004. A year later the Business and Economics publishing program started. There are 25 Foundations and Trends journal being published or in development. In addition to the Foundations and Trends journals, the company publishes 6 research journals.
Industry-wide Initiative Participation
[edit]Now Publishers has been active in creating fair-use policies for academic publications without being an open access publisher. It was a founding member of the Shared Electronic Resource Understanding (SERU)[2] and an active member of the CrossRef Management and Fees Committee[3].

Offices and Employees
[edit]Now Publishers has two offices. One in Norwell MA, USA, the other in Delft, The Netherlands. There are a total of 5 employees. Most of the editorial tasks are outsourced to freelancers and service providers.
