Valerie Morse (born January 26, 1972) is a New Zealand-based activist[1] and writer, who has written a book about her arrest under the New Zealand Terrorism Suppression Act 2002.
Life and work
[edit]Valerie Morse was born in Takapuna, New Zealand, and moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1979. She graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School in 1986 and attended the University of Arizona from 1986 to 1991, where she graduated with a dual major of Bachelor of Arts, Magna cum laude in Creative Writing and Bachelor of Fine Arts, Magna cum laude and Honors in Media Arts.
Morse is a former National Library of New Zealand archivist and librarian. Known as the "Rebel Without a Pause",[1] she is a member of Peace Action Wellington (PAW), who protested the Anzac Day and was later arrested under the New Zealand Terrorism Suppression Act 2002. She wrote about her arrest and incarceration in the book Can't Hear Me Scream, published by Rebel Press New Zealand, as well as in articles in CounterPunch, a bi-weekly political newsletter published in the United States.
Prior to that, Morse had been involved in a number of protests and actions as a member of PAW, and had been arrested in one of those incidents in 2006[2]
Morse is an American citizen.
