Michael Yek obtained his Master of Business Administration from the Oklahoma City University in 1995. He is an active member of the Alumni Association of Oklahoma City University in Malaysia and have served under various capacities. He maintain updated record of all active alumni in Malaysia, Singapore and the People's Republic of China.

He served for three terms as the President of the Malaysian American Society from 2000 to 2003. He was given the opportunity to work closely with the former American Ambassador B. Lynn Pacoe during his attachment in Kuala Lumpur, to promote goodwill and cordial people to people relationship between the people of Malaysia and the people of the United States of America.
