Engelbert Strauss GmbH & Co. KG is a German post order and retail company for business- and safety clothing. They develop clothing for the craft, industry and services sector. Their main office has been located in Biebergemünd in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis (Hessen) since 1948, when the company was founded.
The company offers over 20,000 different products, mostly workclothing and safety-glasses. In 2012 Engelbert-Strauss had circa 600 employees at the main office in Biebergemünd. Next to mailing products the company has stores in Biebergemünd, Hockenheim and the Bergkirchen.
The company is managed by four members of the Strauss family, the son of the founder, Norbert Strauss, his wife Gerlinde and his two sons Henning and Steffen Strauss.
History
[edit]Augustus Strauss set the base for the business. His son Engelbert Strauss (born in 1908) continued what his father began and in 1948, founded the company Engelbert Strauss. In 1958 their assortment was expanded to fabrics and in sixties they started using post order. Most of their clients were construction workers.
In 1994 they had a new building built in Biebergemünd with a working floor of 40,000m² (430,556ft²). This was expanded in 2000 and in 2006 that surface area was dubbled. In 1997 the company expanded to Austria and opened its first establishment in Linz. At this point Engelbert Strauss is also located in the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Switzerland.
