Designed by the famed architect Benjamin Marshall, 1200 North Lake Shore Drive was completed in 1912. Originally known as The Stewart Apartments, the building was built in the Adams style, a Neo-Classical tradition characterized by a stately facade of refined simplicity, delicate low-relief ornamentation and monochromatic light colors chosen for materials and decor. The building was home to prominent Chicago families such as Field, Armour and Wrigley.
