The Kerian Speed Sizer is a vegetable sizing machine used around the world to size and sort produce prior to packaging and distribution. This machine has the capabilities to sort produce ranging anywhere from nuts to melons, and the different models can sort between 25 000 and 60 000 Ib/hour, depending on produce size and shape [1]. The sorting process occurs via specialized rollers that work to separate produce in stages (smallest to largest) by enabling it to fall through the gaps in the rollers and onto a conveyer belt to be transported elsewhere for packing [2]. The Kerian Speed Sizer costs approximately $15 000 for the basic M-30 model and the machines compact size, in comparison to other larger models, make shipping, distribution, set-up, and maintenance easier [3]. The Kerian Speed Sizer is composed of a durable steel frame in combination with the corrosion resistant paint (acid/salt resistant) and built in lubrication system [4]. These features will enable the Kerian Speed Sizer to be used in the field as well as in intensive production units and will help to reduce maintenance/wear on the machine [5] [6]. The Kerian Speed Sizer is distributed by Weening Brothers Manufacturing, a small company based out of Bradford, Ontario since 1986. Weening Brothers currently employs 15 people and specializes in producing post-harvest vegetable equipment on a global scale, while also dabbling in the woodworking, plastic injection moulding, automotive and construction industries [7].
