Erik Dyce was born on November 8, 1959 in Petersburg, Virginia, and later moved to North Carolina. He attended Rocky Mount High School. Dyce earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1983 and an MBA from the University of Colorado Denver in 1996. {{citation needed}}
