Halim Gençoğlu (1981- ) is a Turkish historian, Ottomanist, author born in Trabzon, Turkey. He is an expert on African historiography and relations with Asia. Dr Gençoğlu has particularly focused on Muslim relations with the Ottoman Caliphate and Turkey. He completed his postdoctoral studies in Afro-Asia project at the University of Cape Town. He also discovered and renovated many graves of forgotten Ottoman historical figures in South Africa. His books, articles are written in English and Turkish and published in different countries. Apart from his academic studies, he is periodically writing popular articles on Africa-Turkey for the Independent Turkish and United World. Dr Gençoğlu is currently teaching in the African Studies at the University of Cape Town.
