Before entering politics, Moir-James worked with her husband in a drug-store business.[1]

She became part of the Dominica Labour Party and won a seat for the Western District in the general elections in 1966.[1] In 1967, Dominica received Associated statehood from Britain, and Moir-James became the Minister of Home Affairs.[1] She served in that position from 1967 to 1970.[3]
