La 45 is a rock band from the most popular street in the Manrique district, in Medellin, a place where the tango and Carlos Gardel are icons in Colombia. The story started in 2003, with 3 guys coming from different bands quite famous in the whole country. Camilo Martinez, singer, won the colombian and brazilian music festival in 1992. Then, he joined G98, working with scratch and sequences. Juan David Villa (Juanda), leading guitar, was coming from Juanita Dientesverdes band : he was involved in the recording of 3 albums in the early 90’s with Codiscos (record label). Gonzalo Hernandez (Chalo), drummer, took part of « Frankie ha muerto »’s project during 3 years of gigs and the recording of one of their albums. But with La 45, these guys are playing a rock a little more mature, as we can observe in their 1st eponymous record, mixing with acoutic elements, bambuco melodies, the pasillo colombiano, bossanova, tango and also pop latino. For this record and their live concerts, there were guests like bandoneon and saxophonist Juan Antonio Murillo (Rey Gordiflon / Providencia), and also keyboarder Jesus David Llano (G-98). Between the ending of 2005 and the early 2006, they released their 1st single untitled Transplante, and got the top of local young charts. Oscar Azula director’s video clip was enjoyed by the medias and most of all by the audience in the different cities of Colombia. Yo no sé 2nd single made the band achieve an international gratitude, thanks to mexican, spanish and argentina radio stations’s broadcasting. Dollar diez centavos 3rd single confirmed the success of the band, even for people not really keen on Medellin’s rock, and they saw their fan base and name take a quantum leap. We could hear in many alternative radio stations another single called calle abajo, one of the favorite song of the audience according to a survey on internet. Always inspired by their own experiences and the daily life, they shot in april of 2008 a video clip Dollar diez centavos, based on real facts of immigrants searching for the american dream. With Fernando Puerta director and « Locomotora Produccion Audiovisual” label producer, Dollar diez centavos is the newest La 45 way of international fame, thanks to the musical and artistical hard works.
