Ascensionism is a religion based around the Theory of Divine Ascension. Today there are two major sects of Ascensionists. Both believe humans are currently in the Eon of Dominance, and do not worship either collectively or singly, however they consider all humanity to be a part of a single divine force and so often celebrate a spiritual dimension to social activities that non-practitioners would consider mundane, and may group together with other practitioners in their normal lives.

Orthodox Ascensionists believe we are near the end of the Eon of Dominance (or even already in the Eon of Creation on the extreme end). Their primary goal is to break the cycle, or at least delay it as long as possible. They are often skeptical of new technology, and tend to oppose innovation in what they consider to be “dangerous areas.” Today most orthodox Ascensionists are opponents of artificial intelligence and genetic engineering, the two areas that authorities consider most likely to become our servitor force. In fact there are both lobbying firms and political action committees that oppose advancement in those areas that were founded by known Ascensionists, though such organizations have always been run as secular entities.
A more recent development in the religion is the rise of the so called Natural Order Ascensionists, who believe the cycle is not only unbreakable, but not even worth struggling against. These Ascensionists instead focus on enjoying our Eon of Dominance while it lasts. They strive to increase both their perception of, and therefore power over, the universe, both as individuals, as and a race.
