Orgel's Orchids is a nursery and plant dealer for carnivorous plants and orchids located in South Florida. Orgel Clyde Bramblett founded Orgel’s Orchids in Hialeah on 67 Street as a hobby seller in 1971.
At the company’s peak, Orgel's Orchids offered over 150 different varieties of carnivorous plants and orchids, some that were exclusive to Orgel’s Orchids, including the Nepenthes ‘Clyde Bramblett’, the Sarracenia "Clyde's Giant," and the Orchid "Deanna Lynn" (Epidendrum "Bumble Bee" x atropurpureum).[1] OOCP became world famous name in dealing unusual plants.
In August, 1992, Hurricane Andrew made landfall in Homestead, FL, leaving Orgel's Orchids nursery in it swath of destruction. The company reimerged from the destruction, but only dealing in Carnivorous Plants, a decision made because of an influx of Orchid dealers nearby in the years before.
Following the passing of Clyde’s wife, Phyllis Irene Bramblett, in 2004[2] from cancer, Clyde continued to work at his shade houses on 136 Street in Miami-Dade. His health began to fail, and Clyde passed away in 2014[3] and is buried with his wife in Southwest Miami-Dade County.
In 2010, the business began building back under the new leadership of Michael and Theresa Bramblett, Clyde's grandchildren, with updated branding. The company was operating 2 shade houses, one at the West Kendall location off 136 Street, and another in Florida City. As of 2015, Orgel's Orchids is currently on hiatus for sales as the business propagates multiple species of Carniorvous Plants to regain reliable retail stock.[4]
