Using Wikipedia as an LMS has proved successful in making students more wiki-literate, and wiki-involved. Because the development of an LMS should be content-agnostic as much as possible, students from diverse subjects will be incorporated into the culture. The star performer and most active student in Public Policy initiative this semester came from PoP. Now he is a Wikiproject: Mushroom member and Recent Changes patroller. These aren’t poverty struck developing nation citizens, but they are part of a still underrepresented minority online. Having guided them into feeling comfortable on Wikipedia by way of the LMS experiment makes steps in the right direction for diversifying the editor demographic. This is the reason to spend resources on developing LMS features for Wikipedia.
