From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I chose to critique The Shelters. The article did not need to include that some of the band members have credits on Tom Petty's album because it distracts from the overall article. If there was a section about the band members that information would work there. The article is neutral but lacking. There are no claims that appear to be in favor or against the band's music because the article isn't even long enough to make a claim. It almost feels as if the band itself is underrepresented on their Wikipedia page. Besides a list of their songs there is not much information in the article.

The first reference shows that the Wikipedia article accurately names all band members, however this source names "Birdwatching" as a single, while the only single on the Wikipedia page is "Rebel Heart." This single should be added to the article. The second source goes into Tom Petty's relationship with The Shelters and how he helped them record and become known. This is information that is not included in the article but should be. Over all, the sources all seem reliable. However, there could be more of them. They all seem to say the same thing. A greater amount of sources would give the article the ability to have more depth. The introduction has strong and thorough fact references. However, "Discography" and "Debut Album" have no fact references. It is not said where the article got the names of the Album's songs, besides the singles mentioned in the other sources.

While no information is out of date much could be added. The Shelters' self titled album has every song and its length mentioned. This should be added for their EP. The history of the band should be added. It is mentioned in the references. Their tour with Tom Petty should be moved above the references, possibly into a section about their tours. As there is no picture of the band, a photograph needs to be added to the top.

The Shelters is a part of three WikiProjects. They are WikiProject Biography, WikiProject Rock Music, and WikiProject Albums. The article is considered to be a part of Biographies of Living Persons. Under "talk" it is requested that a photograph be added. It is clear that this article is not as completed as the articles mentioned in class. It does not feel as if it is constantly edited because there is so little content. However, the logs show it has been edited and changed numerous times.
