Fortress Social Club is comprised of musicians who have performed with The Matches, Maniac, Miley Cyrus, Oh No Not Stereo, and The Bellrays. The formation of the band began in 2012 when Shawn Harris (vocals/chromatic harmonica) and Mykul Lee (guitar) began recording at Fortress Recording Studio in downtown Los Angeles as a means to test out their prized collection of vintage recording equipment. [1]. During that time, the sound of Fortress Social Club began to take shape as "a cohesive blend of American and British rock n’ roll" [2] and the group's line up expanded to include Harris’s sister, Jo Harris (vocalist/B-3 Organ, Mellotron), Johnzo West (lead guitarist), Justin “Bird” Andres (bassist) and Rob Humphreys (drummer). The band released their first LP "Dreamin' The Life" in June 2013, releasing the single "Just Like You" May 30, 2013. [3] Their follow up LP "Make Love, Not Babies" was released Nov 4, 2014. The album's lead single "Dreamgirls" premiered on Oct 22, 2013 [4] with the video for the single premiering October 30, 2013. [5]
At its core, Fortress Social Club channels a passion that embraces the music of John Lennon, T.Rex, The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones. As Harris explains, “We are on a quest with each song we write to recreate the magical feeling we had when we first discovered rock ‘n’ roll.”
