- Hi 1.187.222.162! Articles need reliable sources to be created, interviews can only be used to supplement separate coverage of Mishra. If you can paste the URLs of two different pages which talk about Mishra then I may write an article, but at the minute I can't see anything that suggests she is notable. Thanks, Matty.007 19:23, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
WikiCup 2014 April newsletter
Round 3 of the 2014 WikiCup has just begun; 32 competitors remain. Pool G's Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Round 2's highest scorer, with a large number of featured picture credits. In March/April, he restored star charts from Urania's Mirror, lithographs of various warships (such as SMS Gefion) and assorted other historical media. Second overall was Pool E's Godot13 (submissions), whose featured list Silver certificate (United States) contains dozens of scans of banknotes recently promoted to featured picture status. Third was Pool G's ChrisGualtieri (submissions) who has produced a large number of good articles, many, including Falkner Island, on Connecticut-related topics. Other successful participants included Cliftonian (submissions), who saw three articles (including the top-importance Ian Smith) through featured article candidacies, and Caponer (submissions), who saw three lists (including the beautifully-illustrated list of plantations in West Virginia) through featured list candidacies. High-importance good articles promoted this round include narwhal from Reid, iain james (submissions), tiger from Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and The Lion King from Igordebraga (submissions). We also saw our first featured topic points of the competition, awarded to Czar (submissions) and Red Phoenix (submissions) for their work on the Sega Genesis topic. No points have been claimed so far for good topics or featured portals.
192 was our lowest qualifying score, again showing that this WikiCup is the most competitive ever. In previous years, 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) or 100 (2010) secured a place in Round 3. Pool H was the strongest performer, with all but one of its members advancing, while only the two highest scorers in Pools G and F advanced. At the end of June, 16 users will advance into the semi-finals. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Bitey, maybe?
This nomination of a new page for speedy deletion four seconds after its creation might be a bit bitey. I generally like to put pages like that on my watchlist and see if the user updates them with the next 10 or 15 minutes. If not, then I'll tag. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:53, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Only four seconds? I will send my apologies to the article creator. I just patrol the new page feed when I have nothing to do, I don't often look at the time. I think that most CSDs (advertising, nonsensical) are OK soon after creation, I should have held fire a bit longer. Thanks for the heads up WikiDan61. Best, Matty.007 17:56, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
ITN
Hi Matty, I hadn't realised that the WikiCup was awarding points for ITN nominations. Perhaps that's why you've started making so many nominations, most without articles. I'd suggest you let people know that's why you're doing this because it's been unclear why you've suddenly made so many noms without articles. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:58, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- I had just found my way there naturally, believe it or not! The reason I have been nominating without articles is that I want to be sure the thing is notable, I don't massively want to spend one hour writing an article, for it to not meet GNG. I generally can tell, but I find news stories more contentious on notability. Anyway, if the subject is considered notable and no-one has beaten me to it, I have no problem creating the article soonish. Thanks, Matty.007 18:00, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Declined speedy
I've declined the speedy on Trendspotters.tv because the sourcing in the article asserts just enough notability to where it isn't entirely a clean speedy. I'd probably recommend AfD for this one. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:30, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up, I think I was a bit hasty with that one: I should have given it more time before CSD. Thanks, Matty.007 18:11, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

vandal user
Hey there, Matty. I found a user/IP address who made a large amount of vandal contributions to wikipedia- 137.90.136.111. I sent a warning to them on their talk page, noting that if they kept vandalizing that I would alert an administrator, but I couldn't find any administrators that appeared active recently, so I figured I would send it to you to send to someone, as you're often active (more than me) and might be more knowledgeable about this sort of thing. exoplanetaryscience (talk) 18:04, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- Given how spread out the incidents are, I'm not sure there is much we can do. If there are 5 or so vandalisms in a month I think they can be blocked (warning templates are used 5 times), but admins may block for less than that. If you want me to recommend an admin I have had contact with, Huon and Crisco 1492 have always been nice. Thanks, Matty.007 18:17, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- On the same topic, it appears that the user shares several IP addresses that they edit with to spread the blame around and not be sourced to a single address- 137.90.136.25, 137.90.136.47, 137.90.136.49, 137.90.136.65, 137.90.136.66, 137.90.136.69, 137.90.136.75, 137.90.136.76, 137.90.136.77, 137.90.136.78, 137.90.136.79, 137.90.136.80, 137.90.136.100, 137.90.136.106, 137.90.136.107, 137.90.136.108, 137.90.136.109, 137.90.136.110, 137.90.136.111, 137.90.136.112, and 137.90.136.113. Isn't it kind of not allowed to have several accounts like this? exoplanetaryscience (talk) 00:56, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Template:2014–15 Premier League table
Hi,
Thanks for creating Template:2014–15 Premier League table. However there are multiple issues with the template and reasons why it has not been created yet.
First of all there is consensus at WT:FOOTY to remove the years name it only "Premier League table" so we can use same template season after season without creating new one s every season. Just substitute the template on the pages it is used and then reset it with new teams.
Secondly this templates use helper templates such as template:PL13 which is used and you have added that template (for last season) even in this new template. This template is also to be removed (perhaps never used again)
Thirdly the template:fb cl team is supposed to be replaced by template:fb cl2 team by WT:FOOTY consensus and a TfD.
Finally the template has had a lot of problems with editors not updating the helper template so there has been a new version created without helper template that is being considered being used instead.
Just letting you know so that you dont get surprised if the template gets a major overhauling or even gets deleted (via TfD). QED237 (talk) 16:29, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I don't know much about tables in such depth as this, I copied this from the last season's one. I can't see any discussion at the Project regarding this, please can you link me? I only used this season's template, so have no idea about the templates within the templates I'm afraid. Thanks, Matty.007 16:33, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- No problem, it is a bit complicated. Have to eat now but I will provide the links later. The table will work now as long as it stays on only the PL article and not spread to the team articles. In general there is consensus to use these templates, but they are in development phase and there are new solutions popping up once in a while, that has not gone through WT:FOOTY. QED237 (talk) 16:39, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- That explains why the bit saying where teams are in the league isn't working... Thanks, Matty.007 16:41, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hi again. I would start by appologizing if this edit is a bit long (and for my bad english) but I will try and explain the league table templates for you and after that provide some links for my concerns above.
- That explains why the bit saying where teams are in the league isn't working... Thanks, Matty.007 16:41, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

QED237 (talk) 16:39, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- Basically for a few months ago the idea of using a template for league tables was brought in to wikipedia since many/all league article and also the clubs individual article, have the table but many were not updated for weeks. A central template could then be updated by a single editor and then table on all pages was updated and correct (instead of being old an inncorect)
- The problem was to show only a few teams on the club pages (only interesting to show the closest placed teams) and not all teams as we do on main league article, and also how to determine what teams to show. The solution can be seen in Template:2013–14 Premier League table and helper template template:PL13 to keep track of positions (redirect to Template:2013–14 Premier League table/p). In the main league template there are switches to determine what rows to be displayed. So in the article for sixth placed team we have switch for this row to be shown on article for 4th,5th,6th,7th and 8th. This makes sure that we show 5 teams on all the team article (two before in league and two behind). Hard to explain so if you have more questions just ask me.
- The current problem we have been having is that editors have failed to update the helper template (so it could be a table of teams placed 5th,8th,11th,12th and 16th) which is why we try find new solutions so that only one template needs updating (for most of the season). The current solution can be seen at {{2014–15 Eredivisie table}} and Template:2014–15 Eredivisie table/layout. At my talk you can see start of discussion with another user regarding this (I just responded at their talk).
- Regarding the consensus to use these templates you can read about it at
- Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 83#Use of template tables on 2013–14 Football League One and 2013–14 Football League Two
- Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 83#Background color or bolding specific team in table
- Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 121#Displaying a part of the table
- Regarding the consensus to use these templates you can read about it at
- About the naming of templates and not using 2014-15 you can read at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 84#Template:2013–14 X league table or Template:Current X league table and this TfD. Already renamed template are for example Template:Current Fußball-Bundesliga table.

Some days it rains - some days the sun shines - some days nothing happens
Sorry the review on the Cumberland Island Horses is taking so long. But I guess better that than this. And maybe I should just have done a delete instead. I think initiative is being killed, one molecule at a time. Sigh. This, too, shall pass. But some periods just seem like long stretches of storm clouds. — Maile (talk) 23:55, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Beautiful title. I completely agree, we don't want anything remotely dubious on the main page, if that means a nom takes weeks, then so be it. Best, Matty.007 19:09, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
DYK for 2014–15 FA Cup
On 21 May 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2014–15 FA Cup, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the 2014–15 FA Cup will be the first time that artificial pitches are allowed in all rounds of the competition, after they were banned in 1995? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2014–15 FA Cup. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
Claim
Difference is in who is providing the number. SOHR has been designated as an authoritative source on casualty figures by the reliable news media (AFP, AP, BBC, CNN, Guardian, Reuters, etc) on numerous occasions, while the rebel group has no reliability backing it when claiming the number. So saying that the rebel group "gave the death toll as 50" instead of "claimed" makes it sound like the rebel group has some reliability behind it when providing the number. EkoGraf (talk) 17:08, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- I would have said that the next sentence negates the thought that the rebels had a method, as it does SOHR. Thanks, Matty.007 17:19, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
2014 Latakia offensive
Matty, if you could take a look at the article 2014 Latakia offensive that would be great. Recent edits could do with an objective pair of eyes. 94.197.120.49 (talk) 18:39, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Which part? Thanks, Matty.007 18:43, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- He means the edit war over insertion of un-sourced material and removal of sourced material that he and I have been at for the last week. Check the edit history. You can also check Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive262#2014 Latakia Offensive. For the most part we have settled things in regards to the objections/problems he had over: the comparisons between this flight of Armenians to the exodous during the earlier genocide by some people; the propaganda war between the two sides; what kind of militias supported the Army, etc. Today he has a problem with the result of the offensive where he removed the most recent sources and replaced them with older ones (a month older), and has a high desire to point out that government forces who recaptured territory from rebels were reinforced. Frankly I don't understand a reason for pointing that out, especially considering it already says in the results section that forces were diverted. But he insists with adding sources that allegedly say that those specific reinforced forces were the ones who recaptured the territory, but actually they don't. List of Currencies
Hi Matty- Would you mind if I tweak the table in the list just a little bit, I think I can get it to also sort by country (without the blocks of countries getting in the way. I take no offense at all if you revert any changes... -Godot13 (talk) 20:32, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for being so polite as to ask! I have no problem, and am now off wiki till sometime tomorrow, so rest assured I won't revert anything until then if I do, though I rarely revert major changes. Best, Matty.007 20:46, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Another GA
Congrats on your GA, and thanks for the barnstar!!! Prhartcom (talk) 19:23, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for such a detailed review, and I apologise again for losing my temper. Best, Matty.007 19:27, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- Oh me too, I thought I was the one who lost their temper. It was all a learning experience, perhaps. My suggestion in the future is to be careful of what you nominate for GA, because there are a lot of reviewers worse than me out there (like the FA reviewers, ugh). All the best, Prhartcom (talk) 19:36, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- Good luck on your DYK; I'd certainly be interested in seeing that article on the main page! Prhartcom (talk) 12:34, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
