Glasses.com is an American online retailer of prescription eyewear and prescription sunglasses, offering a wide array of brands including Ray-Ban, Oakley and Prada. It was founded in 2011 in Salt Lake City and was acquired by Italy-based Luxottica Group in 2014. The company has its corporate headquarters in Mason, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati.
Glasses.com is a wholly owned subsidiary of Luxottica, the largest eyewear company in the world.
History
[edit]Glasses.com was created when the makers of 1-800 CONTACTS, Inc. (a subsidiary of Wellpoint, Inc.) purchased the URL for the website with the intention of improving the eyeglass shopping experience.
Technical innovation
[edit]Glasses.com introduced 3Dfit Virtual Try-On technology that uses facial mapping software to produce a 180° view of a customer’s face showing how each pair would look.
