Twin Twist's bio painted him as a barely controlled berserker who loved destruction for destruction's sake, be it an enemy Decepticon or a harmless lamppost. Even better for him is the gloating over his handiwork that follows, Even Optimus Prime occasionally worries about him.
Marvel Comics
[edit]Twin Twist made several appearances in the Marvel U.K. comic as a member of the Wreckers led by Impactor and later Springer. He was part of the Wreckers for many of the Marvel stories, taking part in such missions as Operation: Volcano, a trip to Earth to apprehend the future Decepticon Galvatron (which was foiled by the presence of Cyclonus and Scourge) and stopping the mad scientist Flame's plan to turn Cybertron into a warworld. It was during a later mission to stop Galvatron (at the centre of a rift in time and space) that the Wreckers encountered Galvatron and his ally - a clone of Megatron, and the elite squad was routed. Although Roadbuster managed to destroy half of Galvatron's face with an experimental weapon, it only sank him deeper into raging insanity. In the subsequent fight, Galvatron pulled Twin Twist's head off with one hand.
Dreamwave Productions
[edit]Twin Twist is the brother of Topspin. When civil war broke out on the planet Cybertron between the Autobots and Decepticons, Topspin joined the Autobot cause.
When Decepticon leader Megatron and Autobot leader Optimus Prime disappeared in an accident with a space bridge, the Autobot and Decepticon forces splintered into smaller factions. Twin Twist joined up with the Wreckers under the leadership of Springer. Springer lead the Wreckers to a mission in the Tagan Heights, suspecting that Ratbat's Ultracons were attempting to secure the Heights. His team discovered that Devastator had joined the Ultracons. The Wreckers faced Devastator in combat, but were defeated. The battle was then joined by the Protectobots, who formed Defensor (Transformers: The War Within - The Dark Ages #2). After Devastator was defeated, the Wreckers retreated.
Eventually Ultra Magnus was able to reunite the Autobot factions, and Topspin rejoined the Autobots.
Twin Twist appeared in as a major character in Dreamwave Productions Micromasters mini-series. In issue #1, "Destined For Nothing", Countdown and Groundshaker return from space to find the Autobot base largely abandoned. The first Autobots they encounter, Topspin and Twin Twist seem surprised to see them, and more surprised that Optimus Prime isn't with them.[1]
After the Great Shutdown Topspin and Twin Twist served as bodyguards for Shockwave (Transformers Generation 1: War and Peace), but were secretly loyal to Ultra Magnus.
Twin Twist, Topspin, Roadbuster, Whirl, the Protectobots and the Omnibots aided Ultra Magnus to defeat Menasor in Generation 1: War and Peace. They appeared again later alongside Perceptor as back-up to help Grimlock defeat Shockwave's sentinels.
IDW Publishing
[edit]Twin Twist appeared in issue #2 of the Stormbringer series by IDW Publishing. Twin Twist aided Springer's Wreckers on the planet Varas Centralus in the Kol system when Optimus Prime redeployed the Wreckers for a mission on Cybertron. He fought the cultists (Iguanus, Finback, Skullgrin and Bomb-Burst) under Bludgeon and later fought Thunderwing himself (in defiance of Springer's orders), drilling into the side of its' leg. Unfortunately the Decepticon promptly stomped on Twin Twist, crushing him. Whether he survived or not is unknown.
Twin Twist appeared in Spotlight: Doubledealer where he was among the Autobots fighting Thunderwing on the planet Corata-Vaz.
Fun Publications
[edit]Salt-Man Z appeared among the various characters on Transtech Cybertron in the "Transcendent Part 4" by Fun Publications.
Toys
[edit]- Generation 1 Twin Twist (1985)
- Twin Twist is a Jump Starter, an Autobot from the second year of the Transformers toy line whose gimmick was a pull back motor and the ability to transform himself.[2] He transforms by releasing his spring loaded legs, which flips him over, landing on his oversized feet. Sometimes he would not land on his feet, but the toy had a lever that could compensate the toy's weight to help prevent this. The toy that became Twin Twist is from the Diaclone toy line in Japan made by Takara.
- A recolor of Twin Twist was sold in South America in 1985 under the name Salt-Man Z.
- Twin Twist was repainted at the 2001 Dairycon exclusive character Uncle Whiskey Breath.[3]
- The Transformers Jumpstarters toys were the subject of a lawsuit by Hasbro in 1985 where they sued a toy manufacturer for selling toys based on their design. Hasbro won the suit.[4]
