Dr C M Joy (Cheenikkal Mathew Joy) was born on 14.01.1960 at Kuriachira, Thrissur district in Kerala State, India.

He had his primary education during 1965 to 1975 at Mar Thimotheous High School (MTHS), Chelakkottukara of Thrissur. He has completed his Pre Degree, B. Sc., and M. Sc Degrees from St. Thomas College, Thrissur affiliated to Calicut University during 1975 to 1982 . He was placed first division for his UG and PG Botany degrees. He was awarded Ph. D in the faculty of Environmental Studies, School of Environmental Studies, Cochin university of science and technology (CUSAT) on 06.01.1990.

Dr C M Joy has joined as Lecturer in Botany at Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Kochi, Kerala. He was promoted as Lecturer senior grade, Lecturer selection grade, Reader and Associate Professor in the Department of Botany, S. H. College, Thevara. He served for 26 years as a college teacher. During 2007-2009 he was appointed as Registrar to Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi on deputation by the government of Kerala. Dr C M Joy was a resource person to part time M. Phil program in Botany for college teachers conducted by Kerala University at S. D. College, Alappuzha during 1991 to 1995. Dr Joy has guided 6 M. Phil. And 3 Ph. D's successfully. He published 50 research articles in national and international publications. He has published 1600 popular articles in magazines, news papers and in periodicals. He is the author of 4 books and edited 4 books.
