Martin L. Korn, MD is a psychiatrist who has studied and developed innovative psychological systems models for productivity and efficiency. His primary area of concentration has been the development of a novel revenue generating for profit socio-economic model for helping the socially disadvantaged. More recently he has introduced methods of of increasing productivity in computing. He is also launching a consortium of online newspapers serving all 50 states in the US as well as several countries and cities internationally.

Background

[edit]

Dr. Korn attended the University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate, medical school as well as psychiatry residency training. He was trained in family and systems theory at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic during his first year of psychiatric residency. Dr. Salvatore Minuchin, the Director of Philadelphia Child Guidance, was one of the principle developers of the family systems approach. It was here that Dr. Korn learned about the importance, power and flexibility of psychological systems interventions. He conducted research on the neuro-biology and phenomenology of suicide and violence at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for five years under the direction of Herman van Praag, MD, PhD. Dr. Korn subsequently went to work with the homeless at the Willow Avenue Shelter in the Bronx. It was at this time that he developed his socio-economic model for the socially disadvantaged.

Development of the Socio-Economic Model

[edit]

While working with and studying the services provided to the homeless at the Willow Avenue Shelter, Dr. Korn noted a discrepancy between the desire of many of the homeless for employment and social independence and the social services provided. Many of the homeless expressed a strong desire to work, yet vocational opportunities and support were limited. Instead the shelter system stressed the need for immediate provision of social welfare benefits such as Medicaid and Medicare Disability Income. Not only was the system expensive, it did not provide the needed opportunities for reintegration of the homeless into a working socially integrated network. Dr. Korn developed an "Economically Centered Social Network" model to more cost-effectively address the needs and preferences of the homeless. In brief, the model suggested that offering an immediate job along with a socially cohesive network at the workplace could be an effective means of reintegration. In order to carry out the system an socially dedicated business entitled "Econet Enterprises" was established. A trial of the model with 5 homeless women was very successful. The model is delineated in detail at the web site www.econetenterprises.com

Despite the successful trials of the Econet system, the model could not be fully implemented until 2008. The initiative was advanced by the establishment of 11th and 11th Avenues, a corporation and web site serving as the economic arm of Econet. The web site [1] established the vehicle for online sales of products. In addition the manufacturing of marble and granite products along with leather goods provided a manufacturing base for the corporation.
