Accademia dell'Arte is a performing arts school based in Arezzo, Italy. Founded in 2004 as a one-semester theatre program for American undergraduate college students, it has since expanded to include semester and summer programs in dance, music, film, and art history, as well as a two-year MFA program in physical theatre. The school is primarily accredited through Hendrix College in Little Rock, Arkansas, while the MFA program is associated with Mississippi University for Women. The school has hosted a number of performing arts festivals and other programs with the intention of fostering collaboration between American and European theatre performers.
History
[edit]The program was created in 2003 by Scott Mcgehee, an American professor of Philosophy who had moved to Tuscany as a Fulbright Scholar. After hosting numerous performing arts workshops and events, a partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Cortona gave McGehee a chance to realize his idea of founding a performing arts school for American students.
