The term epic theater comes from Erwin Piscator who coined it during his time as Director of Berlin's Volksbühne around 1924.[1]
notes
[edit]Epic theatre was a response to the time period during which is formed as well as to it's immediate theatrical predecessor "the Avant Garde" theatre. One of the defining factors of Epic theatre is the importance of the director and the relationship between the director and the work.( cite Kiebuzinska here). Epic theatre relied upon the vast theatrical heritage and attempted to make it new.
