I would like to introduce myself to the Wiki World, my name is Margaux Kerr. I am an Urban and Regional Planning Major with a focus in two concentrations of Environmental Sciences as well as Recreation and Leisure. The Wiki page I will be contributing and editing is for my senior project in Emergency Management Planning. My group and I are under the "Kings" section and will focus our studies and research on different Coastal Hazards along the North Carolina shoreline, especially the barrier islands which run up and down the coast. Coastal Communities on barrier islands have been struggling for years with property damage and loss due to the movement of sand, storms and the natural process of the moving barrier islandsThe effects of natural disasters and erosion to the coast have been an area of concern for coastal communities, the vulnerability of structural mitigation is only a short-term solution. Our group will focus on the trial and error of nonstructural mitigation techniques to help reduce the eroding beaches and maintain buffers when a disaster strikes.. The group effort towards research and completion of this page will progress over the next few months. I look forward to creating an accurate source of information via the web with my group members, thanks to the formation of Wiki.
