Voodoo Island is an English novel by Michael Duckworth written and published in 1989.
Plot summary
[edit]We are at island of Haiti.
A rich building company owner called James Conway, is sitting in a plane, on his way to Haiti - For establishment a new town, with his building company; Conway Constructions.
At the plane Conway is on, there's a young Women named Karen Jackson. She is a doctor from Harvard University, and she is studying medicine.
Mr. Conway and Karen are talking in the plane, and Karen explains she is about to make a book about voodoo, Conway do not really believes in voodoo, and is just laughing at Karen. Karen get bored and angry with Conway and walks to the back of the plane.
While Karen is away, Conway takes a look at Karen's open book, and shortly read about a very dangerous 'houngan' - a person who masters the power of voodoo. Conway got a little scared of the houngan. Karen returns, and pick up her book.
The plane is now landing in 'Port au Prince'.
Not far away from Port au Prince, is Kee living, he feels a kind of danger when the plane is landing.
After nine months on Haiti, Conway's establishment is going very well, and Conway is going to expand his constructions to the local graveyard.
Meanwhile, a car is coming to Kee's house, it is Karen. Karen and Kee are talking a lot - among other things, voodoo. And they walk through the graveyard, Kee is showing Karen his grandfathers grave, who got called the same, as the dangerous houngan from Karen's book. Karen learned a lot by talking with Kee, but she needs to go, and hope they will meet again. Right after Kee has taken goodbye to Karen, he sees two young men. The men tells Kee what Conway had in mind with the graveyard, and Kee gets very angry, and tell them to wait until he had talked to Conway, the men agrees and leave.
The next morning Kee is going to talk to Mr. Conway... Kee tells Conway that he can get everything he wants, if Conway stop building on the graveyard. Conway says he wants a lot of things, and Kee tells that Conway can have those things. Conway agrees the 'deal' but do not believe in Kee.
Conway determines, to build on the graveyard, and when Kee finds out, Kee is begging the spirit of the wind and the rain, to help him. The very next night, Conway got a horrible nightmare about Kee's dead grandfather, who haunted Conway. The horrible dream went on in al future, and Conway did not woke up.
A few weeks later, Karen is visiting Kee, and ask him for helping her and the hospital. Kee drives with Karen to the hospital, and see mad James Conway, Kee tells that he can't help.
