Melt is an American four-piece band from New York City formed in 2017, consisting of vocalist Veronica Stewart-Frommer, keyboardist Eric Gabriel, guitarist Marlo Shankweller and bassist Lucas Saur. Their music encompasses the genres of soul, soft rock and indie pop. Following the success of their debut single "Sour Candy", the band released their extended play West Side Highway in 2021, and issued their first studio album, If There's a Heaven, in 2024.
History
[edit]In their senior year of high school, New York City students Eric Gabriel and Veronica Stewart-Frommer formed the band with five others. Before settling on Melt, they considered naming the band Toast.[2] After winning a local battle of the bands, the seven-piece recorded their first song "Sour Candy" on a whim in 2017. After its music video went viral on Reddit, the track reached No. 5 on the Billboard Viral 50 chart.[2][3]
Melt released their debut extended play (EP), West Side Highway, on February 19, 2021.[4] Stewart-Frommer said time spent in COVID-19 lockdowns allowed her and the band to "spend weeks on end together, hanging out and writing" the record, a previously-difficult task with members scattered between different colleges.[4]
In September 2024, the group released their debut studio album, If There's a Heaven. It was recorded live-to-tape and produced by Sam Evian.[5]
Artistry
[edit]Melt's primary influences, according to Lily Goldberg of The Williams Record, include folk, jazz, R&B and soul music, with a unique sound that "goes beyond soul-pop or rock".[6] Their sound has been compared to that of Phish and the Grateful Dead.[3] Stewart-Frommer and Gabriel are both self-taught musicians.[2]

Rad Bar was a music venue in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It opened in 2013 and played a crucial role in the development of young musicians and bands from the region, including Hockey Dad. At the time, it was Wollongong's only dedicated live music venue of its size, and was considered iconic in the local scene. The venue was closed in August 2019, when its building was demolished to make way for a multi-storey office block.
History
[edit]Wollongong live music company Yours and Owls were the previous owners of the site, which was a live music coffee shop. It was sold to drummer and venue manager Daniel Radburn in 2013, who renamed the site to Rad Bar. Radburn said that "It would be too much of a loss to lose this place. previously owned the space that would later become Rad Bar.
The venue had a maximum capacity of about 80 people, making for an intimate live music setting.[7]
Rad Bar's final trading night was 16 August 2019, with Sydney band Dear Seattle headlining.[8]

Domestic La La is an Australian record label founded in 2017 by Violent Soho guitarist James Tidswell. It is a subsidiary of Unified Music Group, headquartered in Brisbane. Prominent artists include Dear Seattle, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, Teenage Joans and West Thebarton.
History
[edit]Named after a Violent Soho song, Domestic La La was founded in 2017 by the band's guitarist James Tidswell. The label is managed under Unified Music Group.[9] Its first two signings were Adelaide rock band West Thebarton and Sydney grunge group Dear Seattle.[10] Tidswell said managing his own imprint had been a life-long dream and that his approach was to "allow bands to be on a label with someone who is sympathising with the artist themselves".[11]
Record club
[edit]The label has released ten seven-inch singles through their own subscription service, Domestic La La Record Club. Each issue features two tracks from different groups, with the first featuring "Ivan" by West Thebarton's backed with "Dark Shadows" by Stork.[12]

Untitled is the upcoming third studio album by Australian indie rock band Spacey Jane, set to release in 2024 via AWAL. It will be produced by Producer. The album currently preceded by the lead single "Single", released on TBA.
Background
[edit]In early 2023, Spacey Jane frontman Caleb Harper relocated to Los Angeles for recording and writing sessions that would inform their third album. He said to NME that the band would be more deliberate in finding time for writing the project, and that they would "try and ease into it a little more" than they did for their prior album, Here Comes Everybody (2022).[18]
In late 2023, Spacey Jane headlined several Australian festivals along the east coast, including Grapevine Gathering,[19] Rolling Sets (Central Coast),[20] and Changing Tides (Kiama).[21]
