I want to draft an article on Rubric. Rubric

Introduction.

A rubric is a set of rules and directions in the manner or procedure to be followed in a particular liturgy. Directives were written in red ink to hi-light what should be said or sung the actions of the celebrant.; the black specified what should be recited.

The rule is found in Corinthians 14:40, where the apostle Paul tells us, “Let all things be done decently and in order” . Paul’s message was to have a unified community that would develop an ordered worship. This ultimately created a standard order in the services spreading to universal adaptation with minor adjustments for cultural sensitivities.

Rubrics in Christian services are important for uniformity in the conducting of its liturgies. For example the words used and the vestments worn at certain times hi light the season that is being celebrated. This first appeared in the Roman Missal as far back as the first century. Rubrics define the rules laid down for the recitation of the Divine Office, celebration of the mass and the administration of the sacraments. Rubrics carry the essential rite, whilst rituals differ and may vary on certain occasions.

Particular Rubrics deal with the special rules, which regulate the course of the action that must be done at each period of the year. Dividing the rubrics into general and specific. These explicit methods hi light the particular service. For example the varying liturgical seasons require emphasis on the particular season being celebrated. Such as Advent the emphasis is on the imminent arrival of the Messiah.

Therefore when planned communal worship is well thought out it should be ordered and organized. Ensuring that it is meaningful for the congregation no matter where one is in the world. That uniformity is depicted in the order of the Mass with slight cultural adaptation to meet ethnic needs.

It is important that the worship would not be something hastily organised with little thought or planning.. If the group’s intent and motivation is correct, their worship will be accompanied by an attitude that reflects the Gospel intention. In conclusion we see that rubric is essential in any meaningful celebration of a liturgy.
