Possible Topics SOCI/ANTH 4730: Colonialism/Post-Colonialism
1. Asubpeeschoseewagong First Nation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asubpeeschoseewagong_First_Nation It has very little information of their resistance methods which I think would be relevant. For example, their decade long road blockade is not even mentioned in the article. This acts of resistance are important to talk about because they show the commitment and resilience of the First Nation community. Also, just expanding the section on deforestation would be helpful in understanding why the blockade was happening.
2. Extractivsm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extractivism Only briefly mentions the impacts these practices have on indigenous communities and the resistance that has come from these practices. Many indigenous people have been dispossessed because of extractivism which is like a new form of colonialism. The impacts of the destruction to their land doesn't only affect their livelihood but also their connection to the land.
