User:Maliardo-1/Gestures of Italy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Italian culture, several gestures were established and are crucial in personal communication. There is probably no other culture which uses gestures so much.[specify] Most of them are unique in their meaning, some are understood different than elsewhere.

Italy-only gestures

[edit]
  • People who want to express good bye to each other turn a hand in a circlewise. ("a dopo!")
  • People who express that they are hungry hold their horizontal and put it to their stomach and away. ("ho fame!")
  • praying gesture ("Madonna mia!")

Gestures which differ to other cultures

[edit]
  • Tipping a finger to the side of the head is understood as "idiot" in Italy, while in other European countries, it is to express intelligency or a idea which just came up to ones mind.
