Major Shujaat Hussain Shaheed Sitara-e-Basalat, was a Pakistan military officer and a brave SSG Commando who embraced martyrdom on 12th April, 2022 at Angoor Adda[1]. He was awarded highest non-operational military award Sitara-e-Basalat (Star of Good Conduct) in recognition of his gallantry actions, selflessness to the cause, devotion, leadership and steadfastness shown at Angor Adda and many in the past. He is known as the hero of Angoor Adda as he secured the main crossing point between Pakistan and Afghanistan with his life[2].
Biography
[edit]Major Shujaat Hussain Chadhar Shaheed was born on 20th March 1992 in Chadhar Family of a small village 270 GB in Toba Tek Singh. Major Shujaat Hussain belongs to a humble background and his father is a renowned lawyer. He has four siblings: three sisters and one brother.
Education
[edit]Major Shujaat Hussain Chadhar received his primary education from Sardar Tameer-e-Millat School[3] in Kamalia. In 2008, he got admission in Cadet College Petaro, Jamshoro. He studied there from 8th grade till 12th grade. He was one of the best athlete, cricketer, footballer, commander guard parade and captain riding team in Cadet College Petaro under kit number 5179.
Military Career
[edit]Major Shujaat Hussain got commissioned in Pakistan Army in 2010. He joined 126 PMA Long Course in Pakistan Military Academy (PMA). After passing out from PMA Abbottabad, he joined 30 Baloch Regiment, in Waziristan as second lieutenant. In 2015, Major Shujaat Hussain joined Pakistan Army's elite special forces branch SSG (Special Service Group). He completed his challenging training at SSG Headquarter Cherat and was conferred with 4 Commando Battalion. In 2017, to master the mountain warfare, he went to Army High Altitude School (AHAS), Rattu, Astore Gilgit Baltistan. He was the one of the most decorated and celebrated commando while serving in Zarrar Battalion Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATU). Major Shujaat Hussain was also sent on foreign military training programme to Sri Lanka. He also had the opportunity to train Nigerian Army Special Forces Battalion in 2017.
Marriage and Children
[edit]Major Shujaat Hussain married Dr. Laraib Marvee in 2018 and was blessed with a daughter in 2019.

Major Encounters
[edit]Maj Shujaat Hussain (Shaheed) has been best known for his courage, gallantry actions, team spirit and selflessness to the National cause and above all exceptional leadership qualities amongst his Peers and military circle. In the call of duty, the officer had served three tenures in operational areas of South Waziristan District (SWD) and also served in Zarrar Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATU).
His spirited contributions included clearance and occupation operation of Border Pillar-16 at Waghdalai Sec (Angoor Adda) of SWD in 2014 in which 4x Uzbek Terrorist were killed.
While serving in 4 Commando Battalion in 2015, he participated in Shawal Valley Operation of Operation Zarb-e-Azb that resulted in clearance of Preghar, the highest feature of SWD and Maki Garh while eliminating the hardcore terrorists.
This brave and committed officer has also displayed exemplary and chivalrous performance during various Operationss under Comd 34 Mechanized Brigade at Asman Manza, Tabai Sar and SWTF at Shakal.
Last Encounter
[edit]Being an SSG officer, Maj Shujaat Hussain Chadhar had proved his mettle in various Operations at Waziristan particulalry under Operation Zarb-e-Azb and Operation Rad-ul-Fasad. On 11th April 2022 around 9:15 pm at Angoor Adda Sec in SWD, a vigilant BP-26 a post of A Company 30 Baloch Regt detected terrorists movement through surveillance means towards the Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Fence[5]. Being Company Commander of Alpha Company, Major Shujaat Hussain was present at his Company Headquarter (CHQ) at BP-27 Fort. Once the officer was informed about the detection of the movement of terrorists, he led his company’s SAT and reached in the vicinity of BP-26 A, which was approximately 900 meters from his CHQ. In pitch dark night, Major Shujaat Hussain Chadhar skillfully used surveillance means, correctly assessed the situation and managed to reach near the terrorists. Subsequently, he tactically established blocking position to counter the terrorists movement towards Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Fence who were attempting to exfiltrate from Pakistan into Afghanistan. Once terrorists reached within effective firing range of SAT of Major Shujaat Hussain Chadhar, he opened fire and killed 2 terrorists in first encounter. Maj Shujaat Hussain's swift aggressive action completely surprised the terrorists. When remaining terrorists attempted to flee backward in shock, Major Shujaat Hussain Chadhar pursued them to inflict maximum causalities and successfully eliminated 9 more terrorists. At midnight of 12th April,2022, during the engagement and intense exchange of fire with the terrorists, a bullet pierced through the helmet of Major Shujaat Hussain Chadhar and penetrated his head on right side causing his Shahadat at the spot.[6]Through his leadership, valour, audaciousness and determined actions, he ensured the integrity of our International Border by foiling Terrorists attempt to exfiltrate into Afghanistan thus failed their evil designs to refit and attack our security forces.
Memorial
[edit]Major Shujaat Hussain Chadhar is buried in his ancestral village 270 GB near Kamalia, Punjab in Pakistan[7]. In 2022, the federal government of Pakistan accepted the recommendations and announced posthumously award of Sitara-e-Basalat for his gallantry actions of valour for the defence of western border at Angoor Adda.[8]
Awards and Decorations
[edit]In recognition of his gallantry actions, Major Shujaat Hussain Chadhar was awarded Sitara-e-Basalat". On 24th March 2023, Dr. Laraib Marvi, the widow of the martyr, received this award from President Arif Alvi[9].
