History of Marital Rape in the United States Marital rape is a forced sexual intercourse with one's spouse without consent. Marital rape is a case of domestic violence and sexual abuse. It was once unrecognized by the law as a crime but now it's still considered a serious crime except in a few country around such as the Middle East and India.

History Many people might think the United States would never allowed women to go through marital rape but just like any other country US once though marital rape is absolutely find as long as the victim is your own wife. English common law, the source of much traditional law in the U.S., had long held that it wasn't legally possible for a man to rape his wife. This law as been used as an defend to rape one's spouse by many husband in the United States. However, in 1979, a pair of cases highlighted changing legal attitudes about the concept. The case that change history for victim of marital rape is, when a man from Salem,Ore., was found not guilty of raping his wife when they had a fight beforehand. Even though the verdict side with the husband, the case shed light to many people and make them think marital rape is possible and it should be consider a crime.

Victim Many women who discovered their husband rape them while they are sleeping doesn't know what action to take. One anonymous woman wrote, "Am I making a big deal out of nothing?" They think that many people will not take them seriously since it is their husband. Many women still feel as though it is their duty to serve their husband whenever the husband wants or needs one. But this is not true a woman should never feels obligated to do this. A woman from New York name Denise Liberta, was threaten by her husband while their son was watching and also rape her. After reporting to the police about this, they took the case to the court. After a long time of going to court, the verdict is that Mario Liberta was found guilty of raping, beating, and threaten to kill his wife. When ask if he feels sorry about raping his wife, Mario reply, "How can I rape my own wife?" This cased pave a path for many women who are afraid to fight when they are rape by their husband, thinking the world would consider them a liar and love to play a victim.

'Exception While many states now consider marital rape as a serious crime and illegal, Ohio still handled marital rape differently. "Ohio state law, for example, contains two distinct subsections for rape, one of which applies only to "sexual conduct" with someone who is "not the spouse of the offender" or a separated spouse. This section applies to situations in which the offender uses a "drug, intoxicant, or controlled substance" to lessen the victim's resistance and cases in which the victim has a "mental or physical condition" that prevents consent. But this section does not apply to sexual conduct between cohabitation spouses, in which case there must be "force or threat of force"--not just coercion--for rape legislation to even apply in the first place," says The Daily Beast. Oklahoma have the same state law as Ohio, even though it criminalized marital rape in 1993.

Religion Belief Many religious people consider marital rape as something to be impossible. In the Bible, the topic of marriage can be seen in many chapters, this is especially true when it comes to divorce. While the Bible is against divorce, I think we could said the same thing about marital rape."Last week, one Christian blogger penned a controversial post claiming that "biblically speaking, there is no such thing as 'marital rape," citing scriptures such as 1 Corinthians 7:4, which states: "The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband,'" stated The Daily Beast. While this is true as mention by the Bible there are many chapter that also mention how a husband should respect and love his wife. When it come to marital rape, one can clearly see it is due to disrespect of a wife by her husband. If the husband at least have a decent respect for his wife, he would let her be when she mention she doesn't feel like doing sexual activity.
