An example of a meme, which managed to gain control of the minds of numerous people, including Mark Twain, Richard Dawkins, the people of Boston, and Harvard students. And now it's your turn. Sorry. :)

About me

[edit]

The name Mahk Twen is a corruption of Mark Twain (the great American author), or more precisely, the name of the author pronounced in the way an Englishman might say it. Though it looks somewhat Indian, I can assure you it wasn't meant to be.

I am a bookworm and prolific writer of short stories and poems (read mostly by book lice in my dusty shelves). I subscribe monthly to Scientific American and Scientific American Mind. My favorite books as of 2006 are Douglas Hofstadter's Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid, Metamagical Themas collections, Richard Dawkins' Unweaving the Rainbow (and, to some extent, The Selfish Gene), and Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I also find Paulo Coelho's books very instructive and insightful. And no, I don't like the Da Vinci Code that much. It's all just moonshine and myth in my opinion, though a good read. Other books or poems I find quite good are Julian Barnes' Arthur and George, some of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels/stories, Lewis Carroll's Hunting of the Snark and A Tangled Tale (because of the math), and ... well, I guess that's about it. Oh yes, C. S. Lewis is a fine author and theologian, too.

I play the violin, am a Roman Catholic who doesn't believe in intelligent design but believes in God and in miracles, and love to eat spaghetti, pizza, and gelato. I don't believe in UFOs, but believe in an afterlife and spirits, like ghosts and angels and so forth. But imo, most of spirit mediums are fake, convincing themselves that they're real.

I have a somewhat ironic and dry sense of humor. I have penned some satires and fables on political issues, and am currently working on a novel or ballad and a book on etymology (joint project).
