- Voters and electors George Mitchell, John Baning, and Gunning Bedford Jr. elect George Washington as the first President of the United States.

- John Vining of Dover is sworn in as a member of the United States House of Representatives.
- Richard Bassett and George Read are sworn in as the first two United States senators from Delaware.[1]

- President Thomas Collins dies in office.
