MICHAELA ANGELA DAVIS

Michaela Angela Davis is an expert critic and writer on urban style, race, gender and hip-hop culture. She has been the Associate Fashion, Culture and the Executive Fashion and Beauty Editor for ESSENCE magazine. She was the founding Fashion Director for VIBE magazine. Yet she is most proud that she was the last editor-in-chief of Honey, the premiere magazine for 18-34 year old urban women. It was the #1 growing women’s title under her editorship. She was also a noted celebrity stylist, a short list includes, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, Prince, Diana Ross, Donald Trump, Mary J. Blige and LL Cool J. Davis has been a style expert consultant on films, “Paid in Full”, television, Vh1/VH1Soul and for museums, CMNY. Michaela has written for many projects such as: Everything but the Burden: what white people are taking from black culture, and authored, Beloved Baby. She has also been featured in documentary films, “Souls of Black Girls” and regularly speaks on campuses, (Yale, Spellman) and in the community. Michaela has appeared on BBC, MTV, VH1, FOX, E!, MSNBC, and most recently on BET and their critically acclaimed presentation of Hip “Hop vs. America II: Am I My Sister’s Keeper?” Currently, Michaela is developing an “Urbanista” online magazine and television show, documentary film and book exploring race, gender, beauty and identity. She serves on the board of Black Girls Rock!, ImageNation, The Brooklyn Community Arts and Media High School, and conducts her own monthly career-mentoring program, Salon de Shine.
