Abdulhussain Abdulredha (Arabic: عبد الحسين عبد الرضا `Abd al-Ḥussain `Abd ar-Riḍā) is a Kuwaiti actor, considered one of the most famous and important actors in both the Persian Gulf and the Arab World as a whole.

Biography

[edit]

Abdulhussain Abdulredha was born in Kuwait in 1939, and is counted among the founders and pioneers of the performance arts movement in the Persian Gulf, together with a group of performers including Khalid an-Nafisi, Sa'ad al-Faraj, Muhammad Jabir, Ibrahim as-Sallal, Ghanim as-Salih and others. Abdulredha's individual character combines a chirpy, and satirical, but still modest personality. As such, he is held in high esteem by many Kuwaitis, both on a governmental and personal level, and he is considered a monument of artistic and cultural wealth.

He began as an actor at the start of the sixties in the play Saqr Quraish, after which he took on the roles in TV soap operas and stage plays which brought him success, fame and awards. He acted in what was and still is generally considered to be the most famous of soaps in the Arabic-speaking Gulf, called Darb al-Zalaq, along with Sa'ad al-Faraj, Khalid an-Nafisi, Abd al-'Aziz an-Namish and 'Ali al-Mufidi. Similarly, he became famous for Al-Aqdar, a soap which he wrote by himself.

With regard to theatre, he had many plays, the most famous of which were Bai bai Landan (Bye bye, London), Bani Samit, 'Azubi as-salimiyya, 'Ala hamin ya far'un and many more. He became famous for the beauty of his voice, which distinguished him from the other artists of his generation. This led him to experiment in the opera genre, and he was the first artist to perform in dramatic and musical operas, with which he had great success.

In 2006 he set up and officially opened the comedy channel Qana'at funun, known in English as Funoon TV, which is the first of its kind in the Arab world. He is also the owner and director of the Markaz al-Funun lil-Intaj al-Fanni(Centre of the Arts for Creative Production). Category:1939 births Category:Arab actors Category:Kuwaiti people stubs
