Kelly Price is a Laurence Olivier Awards nominated British actress and singer, originally from Wigan in Greater Manchester, known principally for screen and stage work including leading roles in the West End, off-West End and at prestigious regional theatres. Not to be confused with American R'n'B star Kelly Price.

Training and early theatre career

After training at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Kelly began her career playing minor roles in the West End musicals Mamma Mia! and Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Woman in White, but came to prominence by famously replacing an indisposed Jenna Russell as Sarah Brown at the very first preview of the Donmar Warehouse's West End revival of Guys and Dolls in 2005, starring opposite Ewan McGregor. She later took over the role full time opposite Adam Cooper before leaving to star in the short-lived musical Desperately Seeking Susan, based on the movie starring Madonna, and featuring the songs of Debbie Harry and Blondie.

Film

Film appearances include Lauren in the all-star 2008 feature film A Bunch of Amateurs and Abigail in The Sense of an Ending, the 2017 screen adaptation of Julian Barnes's Booker prize-winning novel.

Musical theatre

She received a 2010 Olivier Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a Musical or Entertainment for her role as Countess Charlotte in the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music, which subsequently transferred into the West End, directed by Trevor Nunn. Other musical appearances include Roxie Hart in the long-running West End production of Chicago and Pauline in the acclaimed The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 133⁄4 at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

London productions

Further London theatre work includes Ellen in Martin Crimp's 2010 updating of Molière's The Misanthrope starring Keira Knightley and Damian Lewis, Dolly in the Royal National Theatre production of One Man, Two Guvnors, Susannah in Nick Drake's All the Angels at Shakespeare's Globe's Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and the dual roles of Mrs Darling and Captain Hook in Sally Cookson's reimagining of Peter Pan, in a co-production between the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic.

Regional UK theatre

At Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre, Kelly was nominated in the Manchester Theatre Awards for her role in Victoria Wood's That Day We Sang and received critical acclaim for starring as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors. She played Emilia in English Touring Theatre's UK tour of Shakespeare's Othello, and starred as Rose Vibert in the Manchester Hope Mill Theatre production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects of Love which subsequently transferred to London's Southwark Playhouse. At the Crucible Theatre Sheffield, Kelly played Gloria in the farce Boeing Boeing, and Kathy in Sondheim's Company opposite Daniel Evans. Other notable regional theatre appearances include Vera in Stepping Out at Salisbury Playhouse and the title role in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the Watermill Theatre in Bagnor, near Newbury.

Television

On television, Kelly's work to date includes featured roles in Waterloo Road and Doctors for the BBC, Midsomer Murders and Endeavour for ITV, and The English Game on Netflix.
