I've put some thought into this, over time, and at long last I've decided that I should provide some means by which I can be directly accountable to the English Wikipedia community. This page details a process by which the community can request my re-confirmation as an administrator. This page was composed after reviewing Wikipedia:Administrators open to recall/Admin criteria, but is especially based on the subpages created by Lar and Alison (whose in turn is based on Fvasconcellos's)

Note of course that all of this refers only to a voluntary commitment on my part. It does not supersede requests for comment, arbitration, or other processes.

Petition

ANY user may initiate a recall request by stating their intent to do so on my talk page; I respectfully ask that this be accompanied by a detailed explanation of what I've done wrong, and of how that relates specifically to my role as an administrator and my use of administrative tools.[1]

To avoid spurious requests, I reserve the right to ignore any such petition unless it is explicitly seconded on my talk page by another administrator who has been open to recall for at least one full calendar month,[2] or to remove any request which interferes with normal operation of my talk page (e.g., vandalism). As a user must be able to edit my talk page in order to initiate a petition, blocked users will have to wait until their block expires or find someone willing to speak on their behalf.[3][4]

If a request is seconded by the above method, I will create a subpage in my userspace to host the recall petition. The petition will be open for five days (120 hours). If at the end of this period six or more eligible users currently endorse the petition, including the seconding admin and the originator of the petition if they are otherwise eligible,[5] it will move forward into a modified RfC (see below); if not, I will consider the matter closed, and will no longer honor recall requests regarding the specific matter(s) raised.

To be eligible to second or endorse a recall petition, a user must have been active on the English Wikipedia for at least three recent calendar months without any blocks for disruptive behavior in that time, and must have over 500 mainspace edits. Any given user may second or endorse a recall petition only three times per twelve full calendar months,[2] and may second only once during the same period. No one may second their own petition. No sockpuppets, please -- main accounts only.

Modified RfC

Currently I will opt to use the modified RfC process proposed at User:Lar/Accountability. Simple majority of eligible voters rules. If the majority supports my resignation, I will do so; if not, I will consider the matter closed, and will no longer honor recall requests regarding the specific matter(s) raised.

Notes

  1. ^ It is tempting to say I'll only honor requests which relate directly to my use of the tools, but I'll leave that to the community's discretion unless otherwise stated.
  2. ^ a b By "full calendar month" I refer to a period lasting from a given day in one month to that same day in the next month. Examples: January 1st to February 1st, February 28th to March 28th, January 31st to March 1st, and so on. Not entirely consistent, but hopefully easy to administer.
  3. ^ I guess this could also go for protection of my talk page, although I try to avoid doing that.
  4. ^ I'm not terribly concerned about proxy requests for banned users; if the request is disruptive, I doubt it will proceed; if the request is supported, it matters little that the user who started it is banned.
  5. ^ But note, the originator and seconding admin only count within the six if they are otherwise eligible, including blocks. This means it is possible that seven or possibly eight signatures may be required.
