yoomoot is a social web service aimed at making online discussions "radically more productive and useful"[1]. It moved out of private beta in May 2010 and is based in London[2].
Site description
[edit]yoomoot provides an alternative to standard online discussion forums, which it considers to be too chaotic to help people reach conclusions[3]. Discussions are structured around nested questions and answers, which can be browsed in a summarized form at the top of the page[3]. yoomoot claims this structure is different to traditional Q&A sites because yoomoot's conversations are based around nested Q&As, allowing massive Q&A-based conversations instead of isolated single-issue Q&As[1].
yoomoot also claims to be unique in merging the functionality of wikis, collaborative documents, forums, comments, bookmarks, blogs and Q&As into one consistent format [4].
History
[edit]yoomoot was founded by Barbara Nowacka and Nicolas Holzapfel as a result of research at the University of the Arts London[3] and the co-founders' frustration with inability of exist social media apps to facilitate productive discussions[5].
yoomoot came out of private beta in May 2010[2].
It plans to release a subscription-based version for private discussions and a plugin for external publishing platforms such as Wordpress[2].
