I am a sysop at another MediaWiki project (not a Wikimedia project). Actually, this is not a big deal as pretty much every active editor is a sysop. While debates, edits, and editors' opinions can be intense, we always assume good faith and I have found being friendly and assuming good faith greatly reduces the occurrences of trolling behavior. Of course, being that Wikipedia is usually 1st or 2nd on most Google searches and is viewed by many as an authority (though I only view it as a compilation of information that may or may not be complete or accurate), I doubt you will ever be able to remove all trolling from Wikipedia.
I do believe there is a systemic bias at Wikipedia, but I don't believe it is as simple as saying Wikipedia is conservative or liberal, American-centric or not, etc. Some articles I have come across I have felt were slightly liberal, others slightly conservative. Bias can also exist, in my opinion, outside the paradigm of politics.
