The Hayler Naval Corps (H.N.C.) is a multi-function, quasi-military organization originally founded in January of 2012. At it's height, it had over 120 members in 10 different countries, mainly the United States of America. A vast majority of it's members are current and former Cadets, Veterans, Police Officers and even Firefighters. Currently, it is still active on Kik in a limited capacity.

History

The Beginning (2012-2014)

In January of 2012, Luis M. Santos, created a world in Minecraft, and then proceeded to construct a frigate, the U.S.S. YANKEE. Later, the area around the frigate would turn into Naval Station Santos, and home to the 1st Fleet. Across the map, the 2nd Fleet was housed. By 2014, the fleet reached 50 vessels and the Yankee was substantially enlarged and modernized. His older brother Jose, at the time an NJROTC Cadet - and later a U.S. Navy sailor - was the 2nd Founding Member who participated in the early Minecraft days.

On 10 June 2013, Luis M. Santos of Tampa, Florida and Yohanna P. Maulawin of Chicago, Illinois officially founded the "Sim Chat" on Kik. In 2014, the 126th Naval Simulation was formed.

The First Golden Age (2014-2016)

The period of 2014 to 2016 saw many growths in the size, structure, and overall culture of the H.N.C.. May 2014 Santos lead a Squadron on the Dogfight Elite air combat game, the 11th Aero Squadron, which is the direct predecessor of the 11th Military Simulation Detachment that later served War Thunder. May-June 2015 saw a first-ever spike in membership as the 63rd Naval Simulation Squadron was activated. It was in this period that the first Enlisted and female personnel joined the Corps. In July, the first force-wide use of a central database was introduced. In August 2015, the 1st Constitution of the H.N.C. was established and ratified by Commodore Luis M. Santos, as well as a "Naval Reserve Force" for inactive but willing members.

In early September 2016, the chat was re-organized under the multi-chat principle -- and became known as the Hayler Reenactment Corps. This called for multiple sim chats to operate under one leader, the Commodore. The Commodore would have a Vice Commodore, and a Command Master Chief overseeing all H.R.G. operations. The commanding Officers of each unit would report to the Vice Commodore, who then in turn would report to the Commodore. Almost immediately, the 126th NSS was converted into an Administrative Detachment, and the 63rd and 122nd Naval Simulation Squadrons were activated simultaneously.

Hayler Naval Corps (2017-Present)

On 24 May 2017, two days after Operation Pandora's Box, the Corps became the Hayler Naval Corps. While the structure remained unchanged, the renaming was more inclusive, as Commodore Santos felt the H.R.G. did not carry out War Reenactment operations. The official seal was changed, and the traditional acryonym H.R.G. (Hayler Reenactment Group) was retained. In 2018, the acronym was finally changed to H.N.C.. On 09 September 2018, Captain Andrew J. Owens took command as the 2nd Commodore of the Hayler Naval Corps. On 31 March 2019, Commodore Andrew J. Owens proclaimed the operational H.N.C. to be temporarily inactivated pending a major reorganization.

The H.N.C. saw small success in continuing operation in a limited status on Kik with it's traditional MilSim, starting in November 2019. A small number of members were recruited. As of 2020, the H.N.C. is only active on Kik and semi-active on it's Facebook page. Since it's semi-activation, Commodore Luis M. Santos has been in command.

The Final Proclamation

Presence

The H.N.C. has made it's presence known on Minecraft, Mount and Blade, Arma, Kerbal Space Program, Kik, Facebook, Discord, Skype, War Thunder, iFunny, and Reddit. Some Call of Duty players have been seen with an "HNC" Clan Tag. It has it's own Facebook group and organization page. In June 2016 the group filed an unsuccesful petition to name the U.S. Navy's DDG-126, U.S.S. ROBERT W. HAYLER after the group's namesake, Vice Admiral Robert W. Hayler. Currently the 2nd official website is under construction.

Mission Statement and Values

The Mission of the H.N.C. is defined in Article 2, Section One of the 2nd Constitution of the Hayler Naval Forces. It is as follows:

"The Mission of the HAYLER NAVAL CORPS is to promote good citizenship, military/uniformed/emergency service, and to provide basically trained individuals for service to their community, state, and the United States of America. The H.N.C. strives to maintain an atmosphere of Professionalism, Respect, and Discipline. In times of dire national emergency, if so ordered by the Commodore, it shall become the responsibility of the H.N.C. to defend the total sovereignty of the United States of America, her territories and her commonwealths, to the upmost best of it's ability."

While the member base of the H.N.C. is predominantly Conservative, membership is open to members of all colors, faiths, and beliefs. Article 3, Section Five of the 2nd Constitution strictly forbids "Discrimination against any persons pursuing H.N.C. Membership on basis of Color, Race, Gender, Age, Religion, Sexual Orientation, etc." The one exception is that persons of Communist and Socialist beliefs are barred from membership, unless the Commodore himself waives this on an individual basis.

Nomenclature

The H.N.C. is named in honor of deceased U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Robert W. Hayler, a three-time recipient of the Navy Cross.

Organization

H.N.C. members follow an identical ranking structure to that of the U.S. Navy -- with the exception being that there are no Warrant Officer ranks. In addition, the rating of [[Master Chief Petty Officer of the Naval Corps is an E-10, which does not exist in the United States Armed Forces. The National Headquarters is defined as wherever the Commodore currently resides. The Hayler Naval Corps is divided into several administrative regions:

Personnel

Membership Requirements

Article 3, Sections 1-6 of the 2nd Constitution specifically state the requirements of membership in the H.N.C.. Felons, and members of designated hate groups are not allowed.

Promotions

All promotions are on a meritorious basis. While there are some prerequisites before attaining certain ranks, there are no promotion tests. As former Commodore Luis Santos is quoted; "Just because you can pass a test doesn't mean you are a leader."

Awards and Decorations

The Hayler Naval Corps has 30 authorized awards and decorations, with the highest being the Commodorial Medal of Valor, and the lowest being the Cadet Service Ribbon. Many of the awards closely resemble the awards of the United States Military, in both name and critieria. In addition, the Corps also allows various uniform devices. In the H.N.C., the wearing of unauthorized U.S. Military medals and decorations is punishable by immediate removal from membership.
