Company overview

Specializing in designing and building turbocharging technology for large diesel engines, ABB Turbo Systems AG (1) operates globally as a subsidiary of ABB Ltd. (2) and division of ABB Group, a multinational corporation with headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. (3)

With predecessors founded respectively in 1883 and 1891 (4) and based in Baden (slightly northwest of Zurich), the company manufactures and services turbochargers of many sizes and requirements, designed for a wide range of speed and power combinations matching two- and four-stroke gas and diesel engines ranging from 500 kilowatts to 80+ megawatts. ABB Turbo Systems offices, research and production facilities remain on the site of the old BBC factory. (6)

Around 200,000 ABB turbochargers are active worldwide, in ships, trains, power plants, generators, and mining trucks. Product maintenance makes up a large portion of the company's activities, with more than 100 service stations in over 50 countries, distributed across the following regions: - Africa (9 stations) - Asia Pacific (40 stations) - Central and North America (11 stations) - South America (12 stations) - Europe (40 stations) - Middle East (4 stations) (5)
