Sigma Gamma Phi is a local sorority, first founded in March, 1894 at SUNY Geneseo. There currently are four active chapters (Gamma - SUNY Geneseo (1894), Delta - SUNY Oneonta (1894), Iota - SUNY Potsdam & Clarkson University (1989), and Kappa - SUNY Fredonia(2000)). Sigma Gamma Phi, also known as Arethusa, is an organization founded on the basis of unity, loyalty and respect. The official mottoes of the organization are "Per Aspera Ad Astra", "Puesta Adelphi Omnipa", and "Let Honor Not Honors Be Our Guide". Arethusa was originally founded as a literary society, and later became a recognized Greek organization.
