Biography
[edit]Kimman grew up in Voorschoten and went to the Adelbert College[NL] in Wassenaar. His parents divorced when he was 10. He has difficulties respecting authority, be it that of his parents, of his teachers or of police. As a consequence, he had to follow a course on social relations and aggressivity. He then became interested in music and started rapping when he was 17[1].
In 2010 he published his debut single, Btje vliegen tog, produced by Boaz van de Beatz. Van de Beatz then produced several others of his singles. Jebroer also joined the group 'Nouveau Riche', and van de Beatz helped produce five singles. He also worked a lot with Mr. Polska[2]. At the ene of his participation in Nouveau Riche, which officially broke up in 2013, he took lessons at the Herman Brood Academie[1]. In 2016, he also participated in the celebrations for 10 years of the musical venue Paradiso[3].
He also works as an actor, having taken part in the dutch series Van God Los[NL], and in the 2013 short De Zure Inval[4].
Some of his singles made it to the Dutch Single Top 100, the most successful thereof being his 2012 featuring Nooit Meer Slapen with Yellow Claw, Ronnie Flex and MocroManiac. Other successful singles were Omlaag, which in 2013 was a number 1 hit on iTunes hip-hop charts, Banaan, which in 2015 peaked at number 6 in Ultratop charts for Flanders, and whose video reached eight million views on YouTube, and was included in Qmusic's hitlist de Foute 128[NL], and finally Roq N Rolla was elected as Summer Anthem by Studio Brussel[5].
In 2015 he collaborated with sax player Candy Dulfer and singer Wudstik for the single Ga Maar Vast Slapen[1]. In 2016 he published Tranen In Camouflage, again with Wudstik[6].
Kind Van De Duivel, a collaboration with DJ Paul Elstak and Dr. Phunk, was, in 2017, a hit in the Netherlands and Flanders. The official YouTube videoclip reached more than 23 million views[7]. Another version was published in German, still with Elstak and Dr Phunk, with the title of Kind Eines Teufels, and in 2020 a third version was published in English as Child Of The Devil together with Dr Phunk and Timmy Trumpet. The original single's lyrics (Dutch: Ik ben een kind van de duivel. Mama, jij hoeft niet te huilen. Feesten, alsof elke dag hier m'n laatste is, hoop dat je deze draait op mijn begrafenis; English: I am a child of the Devil. Mama, you don't have to cry. Party as if every day here were my last, hope that you'll play this one at my funeral) were criticised by some, including the SGP as being offensive to Christians[8] [9]. In an interview, Kimman apologized and explained that he had not intended to offend Christians and that the Devil was to be intended solely as a metaphor[9].
Kimman then participated in some major festivals, for example Noorderslag, in 2014[10], Pinkpop Festival in 2015, and Tomorrowland 2015[1]. In addition, he founded his own label, ROQ 'N' Rolla, together with his manager[1].
