Rafe Hernandez is a fictional character from Days of Our Lives, an American soap opera on the NBC network. Created by head writers Dena Higley and Christopher Whitesell, and introduced by executive producers Ken Corday and Gary Tomlin, Galen Gering made his debut on October 31, 2008. Introduced as a FBI Agent, Rafe sooner became involved with the show's leading lady, Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) and joined the Salem Police Department as a police detective.

Casting

Following the cancellation of Passions in 2008, Galen Gering was cast as Rafe.

In August 2008, speculation arose concerning Passions actor Galen Gering was in-discuss of joining the Days of Our Lives cast. The following month, Gering's casting was formally announced by the soap; he was cast in the role of FBI agent, Rafael. Gering made his first appearance on October 31, 2008. Prior to his casting, actors Forbes March and Wes Ramsey had previously auditioned for the role. "It took longer that I had anticipated," Gering said of the casting process, and signed onto the soap just months after filming ceased on Passions.

Development

Despite being of both Jewish and Spanish heritage, Gering was typically cast in Latino roles. Speaking of the stereotype, he remarked, "It's paying the bills!"
