Yiran Liu is a PhD student now and devoted to Urban Studies and Architectural Design in Politecnico di Milano.
Education
[edit]Since her master’s degree in 2020, she found a particular interest in Interpretation of In-formation in Chinese Historic City Based on Theory of Spatial Theory. During her graduate studies in the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at Nanjing University, she got an interest in the conservation and renovation of historic areas and was keen to further her study from an interdisciplinary and international perspective to understand this issue.
Activties
[edit]In 2018, she participated in the workshop and symposium Cinematic Interpretation of Spatiality organized by the University of Cambridge and Nanjing University. In this workshop, she tried to explore the spatial characteristic of the Chinese traditional garden by means of ‘immersive theatre’ and interpret it through the linear cinematic narrative with a short film. Besides, she participated in the Vernadoc Italia 2019 measuring and drawing camp in Monteprandone supported by ICOMOS-CIAV. The main activities included choosing vernacular buildings with commemorative significance in the historic town as objects, and measuring and drawing the façade of the chosen building with details, which aimed to give more attention to these historic buildings and encourage public involvement.
Experience
[edit]Additionally, her graduate studies combined with her internship in design projects qualified her for further study. From 2018 to 2019, she participated in several real projects. One of them was the Design of Protection and Development for the Sanshisibiao Block in Nanjing, which intended to accomplish the preservation and regeneration of the historic space of the block by setting up new business programming. The other one was the Renovation and Rehabilitation of the Historical Complex of Nanjing Arsenal which required the integration of business programming and the spatial pattern of early-modern buildings.
