This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
Many newcomers (often shortened to "newbies" or "noobs") come to Wikipedia every day. Often, their first edits to Wikipedia is to create articles or add unsourced information. Then, the templates come in.
While we, the more experienced Wikipedians can understand templates like {{db-meta}}, newbies see it as:
Ding! You have been pwn'd by a random user, whose username is at the bottom-right corner of this box, because you are a useless moron. GAME OVER. Sorry, you lose. Better luck next time. If this thing is false, which it probably isn't, you can remove it. However, if this page was made by you, you have to leave it here. If you hate this template, you can always hit that silly blue button there and cry pathetically like a baby on the talk page of your article. If you have already cried like a baby on the talk page of the article, you can see if someone has told you that your complaint is wrong and that you are an idiot.
Your article may be deleted at any time, even while you are crying like a baby on the talk page of the article. If you've been slapped in the face with this lovely red box, then feel free to tell your friends that Wikipedia is full of Nazis. Also, why not make some attack pages while you're at it? The name of the fucking editor who put this box here is Example, and you can insult them here. This box has been here since at least since 09-06-2021. |
