Hello Linda, I am glad that you have enjoyed the various articles I have written on Ayrshire local history. I will ask about Hamilfield at the Beith Community Council meeting this Thursday. You could try 'Beith Online' - an excellent website hosted by some American web experts. Just write a short article or ask for information. I will ask about illustrations of Roughwood - I remember reading about it. I intend taking photographs soon of a very old farm called Drumbuie which would have looked 'similar' to Roughwood. I will put them on the Barrmill site as soon as I can - give it a week at least. I see that George Robertson's 'Genealogical Account' gives quite a bit of information about the Hammils. A Doctor Hammil was physician to the Emperor of Russia! James Dobie's 'Pont' gives a good deal of information about the Hammils - including some details of the old manor house. A Hammilfield Church stood where the present church. The various Ayrshire history books give some details of the Hammils - Dobie, Robertson, Paterson, etc. Rosser (talk) 13:05, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

If you have a look at the Barony of Ladyland site then the old castle illustrated there would be the sort of building that Roughwood may have looked like as it was clearly more than a big farm Rosser (talk) 07:57, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
