Dear Libna26,

I did a peer review of the Spanish language article, but I didn't realize two people were doing it. Some of this might be fixed now.

 Overall:

-There is mixing of British and American English. If you want to spend time standardizing, I have information on how to do so.

-The article uses the word "generally" too much; it is often unnecessary. 

Names of the Language:

-The second "in" in the clause "In Spain and in some other parts of the Spanish-speaking world" is redundant.

-The ellipsis at the end of the quote from Spanish Constitution of 1978 Article III is unnecessary, at least in the English translation; I am not familiar with Spanish writing guidelines.

History:

-The sentence that begins with "According to the theories of Ramón Menéndez Pidal" is quite wordy.

-Later in that paragraph, change "genre" to "genres" and add a common between "Clerecía" and "and."

-The sentence that begins with "Because of borrowings from Latin and from neighboring Romance languages," is very wordy and the second "from" is redundant.

-The sentence that begins with "In the 15th and 16th centuries," is very wordy.

- "was the use of such a work" sounds weird in this context; try "the use of such a work was"

Grammar:

-The sentence beginning with "Spanish is described as a "verb-framed" language," is very wordy.

Phonology:

- The sentence beginning with "The Latin initial consonant sequences pl-," is too wordy.

-The sentence beginning with "here Latin had -li- before a vowel" is too wordy.

-The sentence beginning with "The Spanish consonant system is characterized by (1) three nasal phonemes" is way too long.

-Put a comma in between "dialects" and "they" in the clause " In most dialects they have been merged,"

-The sentence beginning with "each of the voiced obstruent phonemes /b/," is too wordy.

-But a comma in between "statements" and "and" in "There are no syntactic markers to distinguish between questions and statements and thus,"

- In the parenthetical statement "(whether for plural of nouns and adjectives or for second-person-singular of verbs)," say "the plural" or "a plural" not just "plural." Also, the second "for" is repetitive.

-"occurs rarely" sounds a bit unnatural. Try "rarely occurs."

- The sentence beginning with "In addition to the many exceptions to these tendencies," is too long.

- Maybe reword "Exceptions to those rules are indicated by an acute accent mark" as "An acute accent mark indicates exceptions to those rules."

Geographical distribution:

-replace "in terms of" with either "regarding" or "concerning."

- The sentence starting with "Nationally, Spanish is the official language—" is long and hard to follow; maybe break it up by talking about the countries where Spanish is the official language in a separate sentence.

-Put the word "the" before impeachment in the senence "In September 2016 this law was revoked by Michel Temer after impeachment of Dilma Rousseff."

- Break the sentence beginning with "The language also has a strong influence in major metropolitan areas such as those of Los Angeles, " into separate sentences.

-Replace "that with "which" in the sentence "Around 60% of the population spoke Spanish as their second or third language, that makes a total of 70%."

Dialectal variation:

-Remove the comma after "⟨i⟩," in "In most of Hispanic America, the spelled ⟨c⟩ before ⟨e⟩ or ⟨i⟩,"

- Get rid of the "in" in "and in highland areas of South America."

- The sentence that starts with "Virtually all dialects of Spanish make the distinction between a formal and a familiar register" is too long.

-Get rid of the "in" in "and in  parts of Ecuador and Panama."

-change "between" to "among" in "usted is often used as a formal pronoun to convey respect between the members of a romantic couple."

Relation to other languages:

-Replace "in terms of" with "regarding" or "concerning" in the sentence "Ethnologue gives estimates of the lexical similarity between related languages in terms of precise percentages."

-Put a comma after "Conversely, in Portugal"

Writing system:

-The first sentence is too long.

-Spell out "two" in the sentence "Thus, the Spanish alphabet has the following 27 letters and 2 digraphs:"

-say "a minimal" instead of "a very small" in "With the exclusion of a very small number of regional terms such as México"
